Death penalty: yes or no?

Death penalty is always a current issue, that’s why I choose this topic. There are many organisations, which fight against the death penalty, for example Amnesty International.
Death penalty is very controversial issue. On the one hand in Europe the death penalty is abolished almost anywhere, on the other hand the USA, where death penalty is a normal punishment. In this essay I will look at the arguments of the supporters and the opponents.

To start with the supporters and their arguments. They say that a murderer or an evil criminal is danger for the public and so we have to kill them.
And if a murderer kills someone we have to kill this guy to.
And the supporters think it’s determent for other criminals, who maybe see what’s happen to this guys and so they don’t do it.

In contrast the opponents. In their opinion every human have the right to live, everybody can make a mistake. Besides it’s prove that the death penalty don’t determent anyone, in the contrary, in countries with the death penalty is the rate of murder, higher than in the other countries. And the argument with the danger is wrong, too, because if you are in prison, your whole life, you aren’t any danger for public.

To sum up, death penalty is a big problem. But I know it’s very difficult to solve it. In guess the whole world should abolish the death penalty, since I’m convinced that the opponents have the better arguments. In my opinion death penalty is the wrong way to punish, because everybody learn from the own mistakes and every human have the right to live.

Book review:
Paranoid Park:

Paranoid Park is a young adult novel, which was written by Blake Nelson, he is an American author, who lives and works in Los Angeles. Paranoid Park is published by Penguin Group. Since November 07 exist a film version, which was directed by Gus Van Sant.

Now I want to write a little bit about the story, not too much because I want you to read it, too.
First I want to explain you the title, Paranoid Park is the biggest and best skater park in Portland. In the narrators opinion it’s a skater’s universe. The story takes place in Portland.
The narrator, whose name isn’t given, has several problems and the biggest one is that he was involved in a fight with fatal consequences. In the book he tries to solve this main problem, but that’s not so easy and he doesn’t know what to do. He has so many options, but it’s difficult to figure out which is right.
In the end of the story a friend suggest to write down his problem, because she thinks it’s easier to let it behind and that’s the reason why the book is constructed like a letter.
The main character is the narrator, who is a skater but we don’t know much about him. He has a little brother, Henry. His parents are getting divorced at the moment. The other important characters in the book are his best friend Jared, also a skater, other friends, who are skaters, too, scratch a guy from the street, which he met at Paranoid and there’s Jennifer his girlfriend.
In my opinion Blake Nelson wrote this book in a youth-style, and I think that’s very good because that makes the book special.

It was one of the first books in school, which was thrilling for me and I could read it fluently and I have to say that the novel is much better than the movie.
I hope the next English books are as good as this one.
I give it 7 of 10 points.

Dear Christian

How are you? I didn’t hear anything from you for a long time.
What’s the matter with you?

I’m writing this letter because at the moment everyone in our family is quarreling with everybody and I’m sad about that.
Jack, you know he is my brother, he confide a big secret about him to me, and I talked with dad about this secret.
Now I have a quarrel with das with Jack because I told it dad and has a quarrel with Jack because dad is very angry about what Jack did. But at the same time mom brawl with dad, too
I think won’t understand this, so I think you should know the secret. Jack had sex with a girl at a party, where he took drugs too, and now maybe she’s pregnant. And that’s the reason for the big quarrel. But they don’t want to talk each other, to solve the problem. They’re only shouting. In my opinion they should talk together so that they solve and understand their problems.
But now I want to talk about an other topic, I was on the same party and their I meet a nice guy, but since the party he didn’t call me, Christian help me, what can I do?
So I conclude this letter, because I don’t know another topic and above all my father is calling for meal.
I look forward to your answer Christian
Yours, Zoe

suzy

Suzy

Character map about Suzy from the play “Virgins”:
I describe Suzy in three points, the character, how does she acts and her relationship to the other persons.

I start with Suzy’s character. What I’ll write about Suzy is all my imagination, because in the book is no information about her looks.
Suzy is the mother of two children, and in my opinion she’s a workaholic, because it seems that her husband brings up the kids and she doesn’t see them very often because of her work. Maybe she is a lawyer. Anyway as she’s a real businesswoman, I think she wears business clothes, maybe a black jacket and black trousers with white stripes. She is about 40, in my opinion she is 1.75 tall, has short brown hair and doesn’t wear much jewellery. I think she looks so, because in my imagination a tough businesswoman looks like the way I told and I have seen that in several movies.

Next I describe how she acts in the play. She keeps cool, even when Jack tells her that he took cocaine on the party.
I think she allows her children everything, because she wants to be a good mother, but in truth she isn’t.
When she has a quarrel with Nick, she constantly threatens that she leave him, but that’s nothing as a cheesy threat, only at the end she really leaves him, but only for short time.

The last point is her relationship to the other.
I think she loves her children very much and she wants to protect her children, but she doesn’t do this very well, because she sees them too rarely.
In my opinion she wants to solve Jack’s problem, but she doesn’t know much about him, so it’s difficult.
Her relationship to Nick, her husband, is not the best because they quarrel a lot, about sex and their matrimony.
Nevertheless think she loves him.

So that’s it, I’m looking forward to seeing the play, because I want to know, if I’m right, with my description.

GLOBALISATION

Globalization

Globalization affects employment of Austria:

For Austria the globalisation has one really bad effect, the textile industry is nearly dead.

Because the most companies closed here in Austria and move to a country, like China, which is able to produces much cheaper, than here in Austria.

Multinationals:
In Austria there are many multinational, but I don’t know which companies are the biggest, and so tell you something about Vorarlberg’s multinationals:

· Rauch: In my opinion it is the most famous company in Vorarlberg. Rauch is a great company, which bottles Red Bull and other juices, the juices of Rauch are excellent and the whole world consume products of Rauch.

· Doppelmayr: Is a company, which produce lifts and ski-lifts and these things. The are active in 78 countries and five continents.

· Omicron: Is an electronic-company, which builds electronic things. Omicron is active in the whole world too.

Groups against globalization:
Anti-Globalization:
First I think, no there are no groups against globalization, but I think false. There is one group, but this group isn’t really against the globalisation, but they want the diversity of company to survive. Because they don’t want a company, which grow up to a global power.

Fair Trade:

You can support Fair Trade by buying things, like chocolate, bananas or orange-juice with the Fair Trade signet. These products are produced in developing countries by humans, who get fair money for their work. These product are more expensive than other food, but when you drink a fair trade orange-juice you don’t drink compression or low wages, you drink a fair produced and a high quality orange juice.

That’s a great way to support Fair Trade and that’s important.

My own Opinion:

In my opinion, globalisation is something positive and something important. Because with the planes and the World Wide Web it keeps the world together and I think that’s good, people in the whole world have fun with the internet and for example: my brother studies in china and I couldn’t talk with him without the net.

But not everything is great on globalisation, globalisation has bedsides too.

The greenhouse effect, destroy our beautiful world, which is the most important thing in our live and it’s very difficult to solve this problem.

SPEAK

Book review:

“Speak” is a young adult novel, which is written by Laurie Halse Anderson. “Speak” won some prices and was published in 1999. It is about a girl named Melinda Sordino, the book was made into a film in 2004.

Melinda Sordino is raped by Andy Evans at a party, absolutely desperate she calls the police, but then she doesn’t say them what’s the matter and so all her friends thinks she call the cops without any reason, and so they don’t like her anymore.

Since there, she doesn’t talk very much and is very shy. When the school begins, Melinda comes to the high-school. She has no friends and all her ex-friends ignore her, only Heather a girl, who is new in the city talks with her. In school she doesn’t say a word and her marks are worse than the years before. It seems that nothing makes her fun, excepting art, where she has a sensitive and understandingly teacher, named Mr. Freeman.

Then Heather terminates Melinda her friendship, because she thinks Melinda is depressive and they are to different.

Although Rachel hates her and they talk nothing together since this party, Melinda tells her what’s happening at the party, because her boyfriend is the raper, Andy Evans.

But that wasn’t so good idea because Rachel doesn’t believe her.

In the end Andy wants to rape her again, but this time she can struggle herself.

In my Opinion the book isn’t mine, because I don’t like young adult novels.

Nevertheless I can find some good pints. First I have to say I’m impressed, how Melinda overcomes her fears and begins to talk and to struggle her. And the second point the book is written very exciting because I could red it.

The main charakters:

Not only the others in school see Melinda as an outcast, she sees herself as an outcast too.

Everybody is in a clan, even Heather found a clan, but Melinda hasn’t a clan. She is the only person, who has no clan. She talks with nobody, because she thinks it would be better for her.

She thinks that all the others hates her because the action at the party, but I think that some persons, except David Petrakis and Ivy like her, but they are afraid to speak to her because the think that then the others don’t speak with them too. Heather was her only friend at the beginning, but then Heather joins the Marthas, which is a group of young girls, who wear very fashionable clothes and do social projects, so Melinda also lose her only friend. She hates Andy and she is afraid that Andy could rape Rachel too. She dislikes her teachers and the teachers dislike her, especially Mr. Neck, who doesn’t understand her. Except Mr. Freeman, her art-teacher, he is the only one, who understands her, Melinda likes him.

He knows that there is something wrong with her and he try to find out that with her art.

I think Ivy likes Melinda too, because she is impressed by her trees (pictures).

Davis Petrakis, who is her lab partner, also likes her and sometimes he speaks with her.

The other pupils didn’t like her because she calls the police and the thinks without a reason, because they don’t know something about the rape. And some pupils really hate her, that’s why the cops arrested many persons at the party.

There’s Heather, she likes her and she is glad that Melinda makes her the start into the new school easier. But after a while Heather thinks that Melinda is depressive and anyway she means that she and Melinda are too different.

Her change from beginning to end in this book is very important for her live and her self-confidence. At the beginning she is very shy and doesn’t speak with anybody too much, because she doesn’t want to say something wrong and I think she feels stronger when she doesn’t talk.

I think the art education gives her energy and with painting these trees, she overcomes the horrible incidents. At the end she evidence that and defends her self against Andy Evans.
